Majority of insurance companies guarantee a quick, efficient and courteous service to their customers when they have claims for injuries. These claims are often held in case of accidents or emergency situations requiring understanding from the insurer.
In this post, we talk about this insurance procedure which is relatively simple!
Any good insurance company will provide you a little card with contact information and emergency numbers that you can keep in your purse or wallet. Usually, you can contact them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
To avoid the risk related to insurance claims and to facilitate the experience when minimizing the risk of complications, here is a short list of points you should observe in order to be well prepared and avoid the worst.
1. Check regularly the condition of your roof to prevent water infiltration and any other disaster. All year long, turn off the water when you travel and be sure taps are closed. Moreover, during winter, shovel your roof a few times in order to avoid excessive accumulation that can make your roof collapse.
2. When you leave your home for an extended period, be sure to check windows, doors and locks to prevent burglaries. A good idea is to equip yourself with an effective alarm system, to let some lights turn on in strategic areas in your home. You could also clearly put a “beware of dog” sign. Never leave your keys under your doormat and inform your neighbors of your absence. This will have a direct impact of robberies risks.
3. Make a complete inventory of your assets (furniture, movables, etc.). At the time of claim, it can be very difficult to accurately recall all things that have been damaged or stolen. For example, prepare a list of all titles in your CD and DVD collection and store it in a safe place in your home or, even better, elsewhere. For major appliances, televisions or audio equipment, keep the original receipts and photograph them. These few measures will facilitate the claims and ensure you receive the appropriate amounts that compensate for what you lost.
4. Make sure you always have at hand a small fire extinguisher on each floor of your house. Moreover, don’t forget to have working smoke detectors! Never leave chemicals or fuels near a source of heat and be sure to always maintain your chimney clean. If you smoke, always be careful and do not smoke in areas that contain flammable fibers (bedroom, loveseats, etc.).
Finally, wait until you see an insurance agent before you dispose of any of your damaged property. You must understand that if there is no visual or physical evidence of your damaged objects, your home insurance might have doubts and may not pay your claim.
